Antidotes to Cautiousness





In a post titled "The Bias Against Creativity: Why People Desire But Reject Creative Ideas" the Farnam Street blog sums up the prevailing research on why many people can't seem to find it in themselves to say "yes" to novel ideas. In short, it's a difficult thing to do because we are all hardwired to avoid risk and uncertainty.


There are, however, antidotes to our cautiousness:

  1. Be brave. Easier said than done, we know. Yet courage is essential.

  2. Be prepared. Make sure you know what you're doing and have a team of experts by your side to help you get the job done right.

  3. Experiment. No one said you have to cross the canyon on your first attempt. Real-world testing and learning can provide invaluable feedback before you go the whole distance.

Next time your biases are getting in the way of a creative solution, try out the tips above. You might just accomplish the impossible.
